This is Ada, one of the strongest and most impressive humans I have ever met!
This weekend I travelled to the south of Norway to participate in a fundraiser for a charity called Stine-Sofies Stiflese. I don’t think there’s anything quite like doing shows like the one I did on Saturday.
Norway is in general a very calm and peaceful country. With one of the lowest crime rates in the world, it is also one of the safest places in the world to grow up. But sometimes, it’s like a black hole suddenly appears, and we are witness to incredible evil and tragedy. 16 years ago, one of these incidents occurred. In Kristiansand, a beautiful southern town in Norway, two small girls aged 8 and 12, disappeared on their way to the local pond for a swim. Two days later, they were found – raped and killed. One of these girls was Stine-Sofie. For her mother, Ada, life was instantly changed forever. I don’t think anyone could ever imagine what a parent goes through in times like that. Ada, however, decided to work through the sorrow. She started Stine-Sofies Stiftelse in her daughter’s memory, and has ever since worked for children’s rights, and especially children abused physically, sexually or mentally by their caregivers. She changed multiple Norwegians laws to protect them, and has continuously been at the ready to offer support and help to anyone who asks. This week she opened what is the world’s first centre for aiding children in taking their life back, and giving them a sense of achievement. This massive centre will have classrooms and playrooms, playgrounds and swimming pools, and even a state of the art music studio! The centre will also ensure that the children who come there, always have someone to stay connected to, so that “the system” won’t fail them on the road back to a strong and functioning life.
I’m so happy I got the opportunity to work with Stine-Sofies Stiftelse, and meet the incredible Ada. Click through to their page here, if you’d like to donate to their cause, and you can click here to see the full TV show.
